ALLEN GEORGE RUSSELL

Allen Russell appeared once in the Colorado Springs Register, on Thursday, July 13, 1933. He flew the Stinson SM-8A he identified as NC930W, S/N 4098. He carried two unidentified passengers. They arrived at Peterson Field from Denver, CO and cited their destination as Denver. The airplane owner was identified as Jay P. McCoy and Russell's transport pilot certificate number was noted as T11403. No other details of the flight are forthcoming from the Register.

Russell was born May 16, 1900 in Fallbrook, CA. He was born into a large family. His first U.S. Census was in 1900, which was counted on June 6th that year. He was about two weeks old. His family included his father Allen (age 45), mother Mary A. (38), brothers Joseph O. (17) and Hartwell C. (15), sisters Maria (13), Dolly A. (10), Mary R. (8), Esther E. (5) and Candace L. (2).

Russell had a distinguished career in aviation, both civil and military. His complete biography is out west at the Clover Field Register Web site. Please direct your browser to that link for the complete story.

Russell also appeared three time in the Clover Field Register. He was a corporate pilot for William Randolph Hearst's San Francisco Examiner group of publications. Russell flew West on November 24, 1987 at Bakersfield, CA. He was cremated and his ashes scattered at sea in Morro Bay, just south of San Simeon.
